Gratitude: The Spirit of Thanksgiving

Gratitude: The Spirit of Thanksgiving

I love Thanksgiving. Those who haven’t been directly affected by the devastating wars around the world have much to be grateful for. I count my lucky stars everyday.

With collective conflict and polarization around every corner, it’s easy for divisiveness to seep into our own relationships. Perhaps what we need most right now is to listen better. To be curious, curb our judgment and open to another’s point of view. I know it’s a big ask but we can try. We all know what it feels like to not be understood. It’s frustrating, resentment and anger builds and we dig our heels into what we believe.

Take a moment and ask:

What am I grateful for about the person across the table who believes what he/she/they believe?

We can hold different opinions and at the same time, give gratitude to the people we care about. When you are grateful and acknowledge another, you can grant permission to be grateful for yourself too. You in turn will show up and be present to others. You can have your cake and eat it too. (or Thanksgiving pie.)

In the spirit of Thanksgiving:

Thank people who contribute to your life.
Thank you for being YOU.

Most importantly, be grateful for the fortunate situation you find yourself in.

Wishing you a delicious, connected and fun holiday! May we pause, reflect and open our hearts to joy.

What breakthrough are you seeking?

It’s Time to Up Level.

It’s Time to Up Level.

Since the start of the year, I’ve been asking clients what their word is for 2024. I woke up in the morning a few weeks ago to my word, Up-Level.

No matter what your word is, I think every new year starts with:

Clearing out what is no longer necessary, removing anything complicated, zaps your energy, or no longer floats your boat. Getting super clear on what you want to create and aligning your beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and actions to make what you want happen, happen. Quality over quantity in how you show up, what you focus on, what you say, and what you choose to do.

I’ve been clearing out with a vengeance. Drawers, closets, dressers, bins, cabinets, files, books, shredded papers, organized my kitchen, went to Goodwill, car trunk, went to Goodwill again, shredded some more, dumped all those sample products I get and never use, ice packs in the freezer I’ve been collecting…you know what I mean.

Clearing out always makes room for the new.

I then focus on creating an intentional action plan for the year ahead. (One that puts a huge smile on my face.) I like to start by looking at the eight intertwined areas of life. Then ask questions:

In what area(s) do I want change?

What’s my vision and intention?

What are my priorities and goals?

Where do I need help?

Creating an aligned plan helps to make changes in your life that will accelerate growth, keep you accountable and help you reach your goals the fastest. To make it super easy to create a plan for 2023, download a copy of Your Aligned Impact Plan, right here.

As an old boss of mine used to say:

“You can change a plan but you can’t change a “no plan”.

What breakthrough are you seeking?

How to Stay Present when Sh*t Hits the Fan.

How to Stay Present when Sh*t Hits the Fan.

No matter your success, the accolades you receive, or how committed you are to your mindfulness practice, there will be times when something ‘out of left field’ happens that throws you off your game.

You know what I mean. One minute everything is easy-peasy. The next, you’re in freakout mode.

Here are some challenges I’ve heard about recently:

The major client doesn’t renew

The boss yells at you

The potential investor pulls out

A detail was missed and it’s a BIG one

The board preso just didn’t land

A promising employee just quit

The deal went south

When you work hard to accomplish a goal and something unexpected happens, it’s natural for your lizard brain to take over. But here’s the deal: it triggers an anxiety loop you’ve felt before, getting into your own head and making it worse. Then the self-berating and judgment kick in. Down the rabbit hole, you go.

Here are 5 steps to get your feet back on the ground when it feels like the rug has been pulled from under you:

1. Don’t panic and accept what happened.
This isn’t easy and it takes practice! Accepting the situation and not overreacting to it, it will stop the mental spin and help you be present.

2. Do your best to change your perception of what happened because that’s what makes it negative.
Is it really that bad? Once you shift to a more positive light, the experience will have less of a hold on you.

3. Breathe and breathe some more.
Don’t let negative thoughts take over. You know what they say: “Your mind is like a bad neighborhood. Don’t go there alone.”

4. Learn from the situation.
We learn from mishaps and mistakes, not our successes. The good news is, the ‘thing that happened,’ most likely will never happen again.

5. Get creative and find a solution.
Be intentional and forge ahead with a plan of action.

We all fall off balance once in a while, especially as we navigate uncertain times. Be compassionate with yourself! The sooner you shake it off, the sooner you’ll get back into your flow state.

What do you Want to Reignite in Your Life?

What do you Want to Reignite in Your Life?

I feel a sense of spaciousness in the air, do you? The 4th of July is about personal freedom, independence and celebration. It’s one of the few days of the year we all have permission to kick back, relax and leave our worries behind. There’s nothing to do except hang with friends, family and community.

Then there are the fireworks which I’m crazy about. I feel a sense of joy, wonder and excitement, every time I see them. As if I was 6 years old again. Our reactions to them are priceless – the OOHHS, AAHHS, WOWS….and LOVE that ONE!

What if we created our life the same way? Instead of “overthinking it” which is so easy to do, we approached each day with joy and anticipation, open to the element of surprise and the WOWS?

We’re halfway through 2022. Think about what you want to ignite in your life.

Perhaps it’s to:

  • Renew your sense of purpose
  • Revive your love life
  • Fuel your business or career with passion and dedication
  • Make more $$$$
  • Be more present to yourself and loved ones
  • Rejuvenate and re-energize
  • Have more sex AND sleep
  • Be committed to joy and ease
  • Prioritize your dreams
  • Have more FUN

What is it for you?

It doesn’t have to be just one thing.

Whatever you want to create more of in your life, get clear on what it is.

Own it.

Be intentional about it.

Take action towards it.

Be open to the WOWS.

Trust, believe and have faith that you will manifest it.

Happy 4th!  Wishing you a freedom filled, joyful holiday and week ahead.

Own What You Want

5 Tips for More Freedom!

5 Tips for More Freedom!

Woman UnRuled is about living a life with #No Regrets. What most matters to me is to inspire and empower people to live extraordinary lives. It’s my job to encourage my clients, friends and family to “UnRule their Lives” and then, take action towards what they really want: what brings more joy to them. Every single day.

So how can you bring more freedom into your life? I think it’s about creating more space in your mind, body and soul. Here are 5 tips I make space, and thus freedom, in my life.

#1 Take a Yoga Class
I love yoga. For me, It’s less about exercise for my body, and more about exercise for my mind and spirit. It brings more room and freedom into my brain. I breathe more deeply, my mind calms down and I’m able to get in touch with my true essence, who I really am. I always look at things differently after class than before class. It makes me feel more grateful and at peace.

#2 Change Your Mind
I never used to waiver from doing what I said I would do. I now allow myself to change my mind and I try to do things which feel right to me in the moment vs. being a slave to my calendar. I can’t do it all the time, but when I do, it’s such a liberating feeling and life is more spontaneous and fun!

#3 Clean Out Your Closet
We all know that getting rid of things that you don’t want or need any more frees up space. Not only does it create more physical room in your home or environment, it also creates more space in your mind. Many years ago, I took a weekend workshop and the instructor told us to go home and clean something out, like a drawer or a closet. The message stuck with me. Whenever I clean out a closet, I know I am making room for new things to come into my life.

#4 Ask – Why Not?
Recently I was on vacation in Morocco and fell in love with Marrakech. I was traveling with a friend and because I liked the city so much, she said, “why don’t you stay?” At first I told her that I had to get back, I have a new campaign to launch, I have clients and responsibilities. Then I tried her idea on – I called the airlines and I checked to see if the hotel had availability. Basically, I wanted to see if logistically, it was feasible. When I found out all systems were a go, I sat with it. By allowing myself to have a choice, I knew I could do anything I wanted. Though I ended up choosing not to extend my trip, letting myself experience what was possible helped create more freedom for myself in the moment!

#5 Do Something New Each Week
Whether it’s taking the scenic route home from work, cooking a new recipe, or trying a new workout, novelty gets you out of your comfort zone and wakes you up in a way that is exciting. Invite a new friend out for lunch. Take a class to learn how to do videos on your phone. Every time you stretch towards something new, you’ll feel a sense of joy and freedom. So do it often!
